A fruitful collaboration
between Legal and Public
Af fairs
The positive regulatory developments repre-
sented by the DMA and DSA is the result of
close collaboration between the Legal and
Public Af fairs teams. Since the very begin-
ning of the process and regarding the poten-
tial unprecedented ef fects of these major
pieces of legislation, it was crucial to set up an
ef ficient internal way of working, inspired by
our Simplicity pillars, to ensure that we make
the most of these new European regulations.
For three years, since December 2020, the
teams have been able to create a workstream
involving the right experts at the right time to
make the cooperation as ef ficient as possible,
supported by decision-oriented meetings.
The expertise of the Legal team enabled the
Public Af fairs people to ensure the best pos-
sible defence of the Group’s interests within
its associations (WFA - advertisers federa-
tion, AIM - European Brand Association, TAC
-companies coalition against counterfei-
ting), but also directly with EU decision-ma-
kers (European Parliament: MEPs Yon-Cour-
tin, Schwab, etc.; European Commission:
Directorate-General for Communications
Networks, Content and Technology; French
representatives This agile work method
made it possible to take rapid decisions when
necessary and participate in the success of
our advocacy strategy
What’s next?
The trusting cooperation developed during
the legislative procedures didn’t stop with
the adoption of the texts. It is continuing
as the DSA and the DMA are being imple-
mented. Specifically, Public Af fairs and Legal
are accompanying, through the creation of
a DMA taskforce, the E-Com and CDMO /
Media teams to best leverage the positive
changes brought by the regulation with the
objective of providing our operational teams
with practical guidance and toolkits.
Also, this cooperation will certainly extend
beyond Europe as DMA-like regulations are
under discussion in most Zones and nume-
rous key markets (e.g., Japan, Korea, Austra-
lia, India, Brazil, etc.).
