Top tip Take time to reflect

SPEAKING UP IS NOT ALWAYS EASY While the behaviors that underpin psychological safety sound sensible, they are not always the reality we experience when working in teams. It is not always easy to speak up and express ourselves honestly and openly. Many of us have remained silent when we should have spoken up; we may have gone along with something when we should have challenged or expressed our concerns. We may even have made a conscious choice to remain silent.

WHY?

Well, when we speak up to share an idea, thought, or opinion, we are taking an interpersonal risk. We cannot control what the impact will be and sometimes perhaps because of our previous experiences, our need to manage the impression we create, or a belief that our ideas will not be listened to we might stay silent.
