Personal Strength How To?

STAY POSITIVE Recognise and accept what is out of your control. This allows you to feel confident

for the second step

Ask yourself what can I control here ? This simple question allows you to see the issue differently i.e. you are no longer at effect of something, you have some power to do something about it.

Action those things that are in your power. This allows you to take control of the situation and you can feel you did all that you were able to do.

For example if there was someone on public transport and there was a hold-up and so they are running late for a meeting or appointment, the effect of this might make he/she very stressed, anxious which are negative states. By firstly accepting that they cannot change the traffic they can secondly move to considering what they could control. By thirdly choosing some of these to action, they are creating an empowerment which is a positive state. For this example, call/email to say running late or to change the appointment/meeting, email their input to the meeting, ask someone to take their place, change on to a different mode of transport, plan in next time an extra hour incase of hold-ups.
