Perceptual Positioning This is where you consider your situation from three different positons to really understand the situation and your stakeholder. First as your self, then as the other person and finally as an observer.

Seeing it as your self clarifies your thoughts/wants needs. Seeing it from the manager or stakeholder s perspective allows you to gain insights into their world to help inform you. The important part of this is that you truly imagine you are that person rather than thinking from your perspective. It is true, you won t know that you are right, but those who use this techniques have said it is useful in understanding the person more. Finally looking from an observer s perspective, an anonymous person, a fly on the wall, who has nothing to do with the situation provides you with an objective perspective.
