OSMOSUN®, the solar solution that reconciles the climate and desalination

In partnership with SUEZ, Mascara Renewable Water has developed OSMOSUN®, the first battery-free solar photovoltaic desalination technology in the world that uses reverse osmosis.

This innovation can provide access to water at a competitive price and with zero CO2 emissions, to all and anywhere.

Two units have been installed: one for MASDAR in Abu Dhabi, as part of its renewable desalination programme, and the other for the SUEZ Group in Bora Bora, French Polynesia.

These two installations have been used to technically and economically qualify and validate this innovation in different situations.

A third OSMOSUN®80 solar desalination unit is being deployed on Rodrigues, an isolated island in the Indian Ocean. It will produce 80m3 of water per day, while saving almost 170 tCO2e compared with a conventional desalination unit of the same capacity.
