turning plastic collected on beaches into shampoo bottles
Head & Shoulders (Procter & Gamble) has created the first recyclable shampoo bottle in the world, made from plastic collected on beaches. Developed in partnership with TerraCycle and SUEZ, this major innovation marks a turning point in the concrete application of the principles of the circular economy.
SUEZ, which operates nine plants in Europe dedicated to the recycling of plastics, and already produces 170,000 tonnes of very high quality recycled polymers, contributed its expertise in order to incorporate 25% of recycled plastic collected on shorelines in the composition of the new bottle.
An initiative that will help Procter & Gamble to achieve its ambition of producing 500 million bottles containing up to 25% of recycled plastic, or 90% of all the bottles of haircare products sold in Europe by its flagship brands, by the end of 2018. This disruptive solution will avoid 60%
of CO2 emissions, compared with virgin HDPE, and consumes 85% less fossil fuel.
